Maratrek came to live after John, originally from the UK, spent some time in Morocco. While in Morocco he was blown away and sold on the stunning scenery, impressive landscapes and the incredible trekking on offer.

While in the Atlas Mountains John met Omar, who grew up in the Atlas Mountains, knew the area inside out and had already done some work as a guide. Together they went trekking, visited Berber villages and explored the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert. 

They then went on to set up Maratrek to allow others to enjoy these same amazing experiences.

Meet Omar

I have been working for over 7 years as a Mountain Guide in the Atlas Mountains so I'm a safe experienced pair of hands for your trek. I enjoy making sure guests experience Berber hospitality and culture. We will even get to pass through my village - no annoying requests to buy stuff though, promise! Just a chance to see my culture and enjoy the mountains.

Meet John

 

I have travelled and trekked around the world and believe the natural landscapes of Morocco are some of the best I have seen. On my visits to Morocco, I found myself on tours which were more tourist traps than good experiences. I would often find myself in a rug shop against my will when I just wanted to be in the Atlas Mountains. I have loved setting up and running Maratrek to allow more people to experience Morocco’s stunning nature - without the side trip to the rug shop!
